Papantla flyer

Description

What I love from Mexico are the elements that build our national identity, one of these is the Papantla Flyers ceremony.

Considered as a pagan ceremony by the spanish settlers, the papantla flyers is an ancient mexican ritual that has survived colonization and modernization. The ritual consists of four people tied on their waist descending from a 30m high pole. A fifth man remains at the top of the pole dancing and playing a little drum and a flute.

It is thought that this ceremony was created to ask for rain to the gods. It is now an UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage and there is even an school to form young flyers.

The photo composition is simple but straight, I dropped the colours (even with the colourful clothing of the flyers) to focus on the subject and its hanging condition.

His position gives you a sense of freedom.
